Position: Controller

Location: Bethesda/Rockville

Fortune 500 Company with competitive pay and excellent benefits in the Washington DC/ Maryland area has retained our services to identify a hands-on Controller.  Must have experience with construction accounting. CPA Preferred.

 Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the auditing, accounting, and budgeting activities
  • Ensure that reports always comply with generally accepted accounting principles
  • Review overall company profitability as well as specific job profitability and cost overrun concerns with management
  • Coordinate quarterly accounting reviews, annual audits, and tax returns
  • Monitor capital projects by analyzing budget to actual variances
  • Prepares Monthly and Quarterly reconciliations
  • Work closely with construction management and project accounting teams to obtain, compile and review monthly accrual entries as well as monthly and quarterly accounting reports
  • Communicate effectively with vendors, management and accounting staff, internal and external auditors
  • Effectively multi-task in order to manage a variety of deadline-driven projects concurrently
  • Prepare fixed assets Roll Forward Schedule
  • Review all incoming invoices for accuracy, proper approvals, and coding
  • Deposit misc. receipts, prepare and post journal entries, prepare manual checks and set up vendors
  • Input and access information in the construction accounting software
  • Work with Senior Management and Operations Managers to ensure financial directives are followed

Qualification and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Minimum 5 years of the general ledger or public accounting experience; preferably in commercial, construction or real estate accounting and at least 3 years’ experience in a supervisory position
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, construction accounting, audit, and reporting regulations
  • CPA or a current CPA candidate
  • Effectively multi-task in order to manage a variety of deadline-driven projects concurrently
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
