Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting Accountant

Position Accountabilities

  • Prepares the interim and annual external Financial Statements of the ACS; as well as identifying significant variances in Balance Sheet and Income Statement line items in order to ensure the accuracy and completeness
  • Monitors and researches new GAAP pronouncements; evaluation of impact to the company; assisting in the implementation of new business, accounting and financial reporting processes
  • Performs detail reviews of contracts to determine proper accounting in compliance of revenue recognition, contribution received or made, leases and other existing or new GAAP accounting pronouncements
  • Assists finance management implement internal, compliance and operational control initiatives
  • Serves as lead for Federal Grant Accounting and Compliance; 1) Review of monthly grant analysis and schedules prepared by GA staff; ensuring accuracy and compliance with funding agencies guidelines and OMB Uniform Guidance, 2) liaison with project officers, funding agency officials and others to resolve concerns and discrepancies related to grants, and 3) preparation of timely quarterly reimbursements, submission of necessary financial reports and Indirect cost proposals
  • Work cross-functionally with other groups to ensure compliance with financial or compliance reporting requirements. Partner with Legal, Finance, FP&A and others on deliverables and projects that affect financial and compliance reporting
  • Recommend and assist in the implementation of process improvements as appropriate, to simplify, standardize and streamline the financial reporting process
  • Provides support to Manager during annual audit
  • Prepares and maintain a comprehensive set of work papers supporting the ACS’s financial statements
  • Prepares special projects and ad hoc reports/analyses for senior management
  • Prepares or reviews complex analyses, work papers, and non-standard reports within established deadlines
  • Documents current policies and procedures as needed. Assists with the development of new controls or practices, and isolates and recommends current practices that can be eliminated and/or streamlined 

Education, Experience and Technical Skills

  • College degree in Accounting or similar Finance field preferred; minimum 10 years of work experience, with emphasis in Not for Profit accounting
  • Knowledge of GAAP required with emphasis in Not for Profit accounting
  • Knowledge of GAAP Financial Statements , including footnote disclosures
  • Understanding of the relationship between various financial statement accounts
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills required (especially pivot tables and Vlookups)
  • CPA is a plus
  • PeopleSoft experience is a plus
  • Previous project lead or supervisory experience a plus
  • Blackline is a plus
